Music

Being involved in music activities enables our students to develop self-expression, cultural understanding, critical skills and social interaction. It also helps to increase self-esteem, self-discipline and creativity.

Our main aim is to promote and encourage the enjoyment of music in its many forms for everyone.

We provide a growing and exciting programme of activities, in and outside the classroom, which gives students opportunities to get involved in different forms of music-making at all levels throughout the school.

Pupils are encouraged to take part in major musical events such as the Carol Service, Talent show, and summer musical production as well as other events such as assemblies, open days and awards evenings.

We have a whole school musical production every year in conjunction with the drama department. Our shows have included ‘Hairspray’, ‘Annie’ and ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’.

The music department has two main teaching music rooms and a number of smaller practice room equipped with a variety of instruments including small percussion, keyboards, pianos, guitars (acoustic and electric). Our two main teaching rooms are both equipped with Apple iMacs, linked to midi keyboards and these are used extensively in music making at All Saints. We also have full class sets of Djembe drums, glockenspiels, Ukuleles, and a mixture of tuned and untuned percussion.

Music at All Saints is primarily a practical subject as we believe that is the best way for our pupils to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding. The learning in our music curriculum takes place through the integration of performing, composing and listening activities where pupils have the opportunity to make use of the resources available.
