Modern Foreign Languages
The ability to understand and communicate in another language is a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure in this country and throughout the world. Learning languages gives pupils opportunities to develop their skills and to express themselves with increasing confidence, independence and creativity. It also supports the development of literacy skills in a pupil’s own language.
This is a successful department, currently offering Spanish. We use a range of activities to cater for pupils of all abilities.
Teaching focuses on developing the breadth and depth of pupils’ competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing, based on a sound foundation of core grammar and vocabulary. It enables pupils to understand and communicate personal and factual information, developing and justifying points of view in speech and writing, with increased spontaneity, independence and accuracy.
