The Food Technology Department
Food Technology
At the end of Year 9 pupils can opt to study Food Technology at examination level in Years 10 & 11.

During KS3 pupils make a wide range of products:
  • Year 7 Snack Products
  • Year 8 Bakery Products
  • Year 9 Foreign Food & Healthy Eating
On KS4 pupils in Year 10 cover the following topics:
  • Take Away Products
  • Christmas Products
  • Pasta / Rice / Sauces
  • Bakery Products
Year 11 pupils complete a coursework project that is worth 60% of the final examination grade. The projects to choose from are:
  • Desserts
  • Foreign Foods
  • Snacks
  • Ready-to-Eat
  • Single Portions
The emphasis within the Food Technology lessons is on practical work and making quality products to take home for everyone to enjoy eating.
Environmental issues are considered when pupils are discussing packaging and labelling of products.

Healthy Eating is promoted with all Food Technology lessons although sometimes it is impossible to be good all the time, so occasionally we are “wicked”!

The Department is committed to the fund-raising for charity through “The Enterprise Week” which is held in school during July, to encourage pupils to develop their ideas and entrepreneurial skills!
