| The Design Technology Department
The faculty is firmly committed to the ‘design and make’ approach in the teaching of technology, and schemes of work are in place to ensure that the appropriate breadth and progression of these two principle aims are adequately covered. All pupils should develop their capability through combining their design and making skill with knowledge and understanding in order to design and make products fit for the purpose intended. The skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to undertake each specific design and make assignments are to be acquired and refined through the use of Focused Tasks and Investigation activities, specifically designed for the purpose. Focused Tasks and Investigation Activities should be taught within a context, this may be part of a design and make assignment. By using thinking skills pupils can focus on 'knowing how' as well as 'knowing what'.
