The Information Technology Department ![]() The objective of the KS3 curriculum is to build on the technical skills developed during KS1 and KS2 and to develop the higher order skills required for success at KS4. To do this, the balance between skills and capability changes during Years 7, 8 and 9, so that by the end of Year 9 students are comfortable with all areas of ICT. At KS4 pupils can achieve grades ranging from a Pass to a Distinction in BTEC National. This course enables pupils to leave with either 2 or 4 GCSE equivalent grades. The department also runs the Diploma Level 2 in IT. This two year course combines seven units of work with functional skills, a project and work experience to give students an insight into the real-world of IT in business. In 6th form pupils can choose either BTEC Level 3 or Media Productions. Media Productions takes an in-depth look at the media industry. Pupils look at a number of units such as Photography, Advertising, Research in the Media Industries, Pre-Production Skills, Film Studies and Understanding Television. The BTEC Level 3 units consist of networking, building a website, e-commerce, understanding computer hardware, communication and employability skills for ICT and the impact of the use of IT on business systems. All pupils will have access to the school V/PLE where teachers are in the process of uploading coursework, homework and web links for pupils to access at home. This is a committed department who make education fun and achievable for all pupils.
